Star CBM Data Insights - Overall Risk Score for Students in Benchmark Category

On this page, you can see the list of students whose Overall Risk Scores are in the benchmark category that you selected on the previous page.

The Overall Risk Score was developed to support customers who must adhere to state-level reporting requirements; it is available for Star CBM Reading. The score shows you which students in grades K-2 are at risk because their composite scores are below the 20^th percentile. Overall Risk Scores are a combination of selected Foundations of Literacy measures in each grade that 1) have norms across the full year and 2) are the most psychometrically useful for creating a combined indicator of risk based on performance in these literacy/reading measures; this type of combined score is most often required in state reporting.

Note: The Overall Risk Score is only calculated once per season; it is not intended to replace the single screening measure per grade/season for universal screening purposes.

These measures are used to create the scores:

• Kindergarten
• Letter Naming
• Letter Sounds
• Phoneme Segmentation
• Receptive Nonsense Words
• Grade 1
• Expressive Nonsense Words
• Passage Oral Reading
• Phoneme Segmentation
• Grade 2
• Expressive Nonsense Words

How to Get to This Page

1. First, go to the Star CBM Data Insights page using one of two methods:
   
   • On the Home page, select Star CBM Reading, Star CBM Lectura, or Star CBM Math; then, select Data Insights from the menu that opens.
     
   • On the Home page, select Reports; then, select Star CBM Data Insights.
     
2. Then, for Reading - English, select Explore the data.
   
3. Do one of the following:
   
   • On the Star CBM Data Insights - Overall Risk Score page, select a section of a bar graph for the category that you want to view; then, select View student list.
     
   • In the table below the bar graphs, select one of the numbers to see the students who are in that category for the season.
     

Using the Table

The table lists the students whose Overall Risk Scores for the current season are in the benchmark category that you selected on the previous page. The date when this data was last updated is above the table, below the information about the selected students.

For each student, the table includes:

• the student's name
• grade level
• Overall Risk Score and a circle in the color of the benchmark category (for more about the Overall Risk Scores in each benchmark category, see Star CBM Score and Benchmark Tables).
• Percentile Rank score
• the school
• the class
• the teacher

Note: Students who are in more than one class may be listed twice if both classes were included in your previous selections.

You can sort the table by any column by selecting the column heading. Select the heading again to switch between ascending and descending order.

To see more information for a specific student, including that student's current goals (if any) and scores for other Star CBM assessments that student has taken, select the student's name. You will go to the Star CBM English tab of the Student Details page.

Viewing a Printable PDF or Downloading Data for Spreadsheet Programs

Do you want to print or save the data? Select Print or Save above the table; then, using the options in the window that opens, print the page or save it to a PDF file.

To download a file suitable for spreadsheet programs (.csv), select Download Data. The file will include a row for each student with the screening window, the benchmark category, the student name, the student's grade level, the Percentile Rank score, the Overall Risk Score, the school name, the class name, and the teacher name.
