On the Star Preschool Student Details page and the English Literacy tab, you can see the student's Star Preschool English literacy assessment scores from the current school year.
How to Get to This Page
On the Star Preschool Assessments Dashboard, select the student's name.
Selecting the Language
You can choose to view this page in English or Spanish using the English and Español links at the top of the page.
Selecting the Student
At the top of the page, drop-down lists let you select the school, class, and student. If you only have access to one item in any of the drop-down lists, that item will be shown instead of a drop-down list. Below the drop-down lists, you will see the student's grade and ID.
Student Data on the Page
To the right at the top of the page, you'll see a summary that shows you how many of the student's scores in the current school year are in each benchmark category. In this example, the student scored in the On Watch benchmark category on one assessment and in the At/Above Benchmark category on four assessments. Since the student had no scores in the Intervention category, it is not shown.
At/Above Benchmark means the student appears to be on track (Tier 1), making the developmental progress needed to meet long-term goals to be successful in Kindergarten.
On Watch means more information is needed. Consider this result plus other observations and data to determine whether extra instructional/intervention support is needed. Progress monitoring may be needed.
Intervention means the child’s score is significantly below benchmark. Consistently offer Tier 2 or Tier 3 instructional/intervention support. Progress monitoring is recommended.
means the assessment was Discontinued, either because the student couldn't answer the practice items correctly or because the teacher stopped the assessment because the student was struggling. Continue to work with the student and try again during the next screening window. For more information, see Discontinued Star Preschool Assessments. Note: For Oral Language and Alphabet Knowledge I, assessments aren't discontinued if the student answers the practice items incorrectly.
On the English Literacy tab, you will see a table for each of the assessment types that the student has taken this school year. The tables will include both screening and progress monitoring assessments for each measure. In each table, you will see assessment dates, activities (the measure name), Scaled Scores and benchmark icons, and test times in minutes and seconds.
Above each of the tables, you will see a View Chart link. Select the link to see a chart of the student's assessment scores for that measure in the current school year. When you finish viewing the chart, select Hide Chart.
Deactivating a Student's Assessment
In the Actions column of the tables, you will see a Deactivate link in the row for many of the student's Star Preschool assessments.
You can deactivate both Discontinued and completed assessments, but you can only deactivate the most recent assessment for each measure in the current school year.
Important! You cannot recover a deactivated assessment. It will be removed from Star Preschool. To replace a deactivated assessment, you need to retest the student.
When you select Deactivate, the Deactivate Assessment popup window will open. This window shows you the name of the student and the assessment, the date it was taken, and the student's score (if any). Remember that deactivating will remove this assessment from Star Preschool. If you want to continue, select Deactivate Assessment; if not, select Cancel.
If you choose to deactivate, the assessment will be removed and will no longer be shown anywhere in Star Preschool. You can retest the student on the assessment.
