Star CBM Data Insights - Overall Risk Score

On this page, you can see the percentage of students whose Overall Risk Scores fall into each Star CBM benchmark category.

The Overall Risk Score was developed to support customers who must adhere to state-level reporting requirements; it is available for Star CBM Reading. The score shows you which students in grades K-2 are at risk because their composite scores are below the 20^th percentile. Overall Risk Scores are a combination of selected Foundations of Literacy measures in each grade that 1) have norms across the full year and 2) are the most psychometrically useful for creating a combined indicator of risk based on performance in these literacy/reading measures; this type of combined score is most often required in state reporting.

Note: The Overall Risk Score is only calculated once per season; it is not intended to replace the single screening measure per grade/season for universal screening purposes.

How to Get to This Page

1. First, go to the Star CBM Data Insights page using one of these methods:
   • On the Home page, select Star CBM Reading, Star CBM Lectura, or Star CBM Math; then, select Data Insights from the menu that opens.
     
   • On the Renaissance Next teacher page, select Reports on the left side of the page; then, select Data Insights under Star CBM.
        
   • On the Home page, select Reports; then, select Star CBM Data Insights.
     
2. Then, select Explore the data on the % At Risk Overall tile for Reading - English.
   

Note: You can choose to see Data Insights pages in either English or Spanish using the language links at the top of the page.

Choosing the Data to View

First, choose the data that you want to view using the drop-down lists at the top of the page.

• School: If you have access to more than one school, choose "All Schools" to see data from all of your schools or choose a single school. If you only have access to one school, you will see your school name.
• Class or Group: If you choose a single school, you can choose to see data from all classes that you have access to or from a single class or group.
• Grade: Choose "All Grades" or a single grade (kindergarten, grade 1, or grade 2). Students who took an assessment while in the selected grade(s) will be included.
• From and To: The current screening window is shown in both fields.

After you make changes, select Update below the drop-down lists to show the data.

How Recent Is the Data?

To the right of the School and/or Class or Group drop-down list(s), you'll see the date and time when data was last updated. When you're viewing data for all schools, the data is updated nightly. When you're viewing data for individual classes, the data is current.

Viewing the Number of Students in the Categories

First, you'll see a bar graph showing the percentage of students whose Overall Risk Scores are in each benchmark category: At/Above Benchmark (green), On Watch (blue), and Intervention (red). In the example below, 55% of the students had Overall Risk Scores in the At/Above Benchmark category. 27% had Overall Risk Scores in On Watch. 18% had scores in the Intervention category.

If you select one of the sections of a bar graph, you can see more information, including the season name, category name, the criteria for that category in terms of the Percentile Rank score, and the number of students in that category compared to the total. To see which students are in the selected category, select View student list. You'll also see the percentages of students in each category in a table below the graph; that table also includes the number of students in each category. Viewing a Printable PDF or Downloading Data for Spreadsheet Programs

Do you want to print or save the data? Select Print or Save; then, using the options in the window that opens, print the page or save it to a PDF file.

To download a file suitable for spreadsheet programs (.csv), select Download Data. The file will include the school you selected (or All Schools), the class or group (if you selected a single school), the screening window, and the number of students whose Overall Risk Scores are in each benchmark category.
