The Class Growth page shows you your student's scores on a specific measure in each of the three screening windows: Fall, Winter, and Spring. This can help you see how students have grown during the course of the school year.
How Do I Get to the Class Growth View?
In the Star Preschool Assessments Dashboard, select the Reports menu, then select Class Growth.
Choosing the Data to View
Use the first two drop-down lists to choose the school and class whose data you want to view. If you have access to only one school and/or class, it will be selected, and there will not be a drop-down list.
Use the Grade drop-down list to choose which grade(s) to see data for. Since data is limited to the selected class, if you select a grade that does not apply to any students in the class, you will see the message "No students meet the selection criteria" on the page.
The Assessment Type is English Literacy. No other options are available.
Use the Measure drop-down to choose the Star Preschool measure for which you want to see data.
After choosing options, select Update to see the data. If you change any of the options, select Update again to update the data shown on the page.
What Does the Class Growth View Show?
Depending on the grades of students in your class, you may see up to three tables, one for Early Education, one for Pre-Kindergarten, and one for other grades. In each table, the first row shows the average Scaled Score for all students in that table in each screening window. After that, you will see each student's Scaled Score for the screening assessment in each screening window. The example below is from the Fall screening window, so no scores are available for Winter or Spring yet.
The color of each circle shows you which benchmark the score is in for each assessment. For more about the benchmarks, see Star Preschool Benchmarks. You will also see the position of the score within the benchmark category on the chart. The example above shows student scores in the At/Above Benchmark and On Watch categories.
Green means the score is At/Above Benchmark. The student appears to be on track (Tier 1), making the developmental progress needed to meet long-term goals to be successful in Kindergarten.
Blue means the score is in On Watch. More information is needed. Consider this result plus other observations and data to determine whether extra instructional/intervention support is needed. (See Progress Monitoring in Star Preschool.)
Red means Intervention. The child’s score is significantly below benchmark. Consistently offer Tier 2 or Tier 3 instructional/intervention support. Progress monitoring is recommended. (See Progress Monitoring in Star Preschool.)
means the assessment was Discontinued, either because the student couldn't answer the practice items correctly or because the teacher stopped the assessment because the student was struggling. Continue to work with the student and try again during the next screening window. For more information, see Discontinued Star Preschool Assessments. Note: For Oral Language and Alphabet Knowledge I, assessments aren't discontinued if the student answers the practice items incorrectly.
not assigned means you have chosen to unassign that particular assessment for a student in this screening window.
If you select a score in the graph, a popup window will open with more information about the student's screening assessment.
In the window, you will see the student's Scaled Score for the screening assessment (but not any progress monitoring assessments that were taken later); you'll also see the date the assessment was taken. If an assessment has notes, you will see the notes icon after the Scaled Score. Below the score(s), you will see the benchmark placement for the score for this measure.
If you want to see a list of all of the student's scores, test dates, and notes for the screening window, select View Scores & Notes. You can also add or change notes on that page.
To go to the Student Details page, where you can see charts and scores for all of the student's assessments, select View Chart.
Seeing One Student's Assessments
To see all of one student's assessments in the school year, including scores, charts, and test times, select the student's name. You will go to the Student Details page and the English Literacy tab.
Printing or Saving Results
To print the Class Growth view, or to save it to a PDF, select Print or Save to the right of the report options. Then, choose a printer, or choose the option to save as a PDF.
Downloading/Exporting Results
To download your assessment results to a file that can be opened in spreadsheet programs, select Download Data. A .csv (comma-separated value) file will be downloaded to your computer.
