Students can select the FAST Tests Tile to take a state test (FAST Star Early Literacy, FAST Star Math, or FAST Star Reading).

Error Messages

If a student selects the tile to take a state test but there is a reason why they cannot take the test, the test will not start and an error message will explain the issue.

Student FLEID Issues

The student's FLEID may be invalid—wrong format, wrong number of digits, a test has already been taken in the screening window by a student (in this school or another) using this FLEID. Check the accuracy of the FLEIDs in the student roster. If the test needs to be retaken, contact your school assessment coordinator.

The message reads: Can't Test. Reason: Invalid F L E I D. This student has an invalid F L E I D. Make sure it follows the correct format (F L followed by twelve digits, e.g., FL000111222333). The Home and Log Out links are at the bottom.

The message reads: Can't Test Again. Test: FAST Star Reading. Reason: F L E I D already used. A FAST Star Reading test for this screening window has already been taken under this F L E I D. If the test needs to be retaken, contact your school assessment coordinator. The Dismiss link is at the bottom.

The message reads: Can't Test Again. Test: FAST Star Reading. Reason: Already taken elsewhere. A FAST Star Reading test for this screening window has already been taken at another district under this F L E I D. If the test needs to be retaken, contact your school assessment coordinator. Time/Date/Location Issues

State tests can only be taken within a state screening window in an active school year; additionally, starting or resuming a test may be restricted by the setting of the Dates and Times for Star Assessments Preference. Make sure the student is testing inside a state screening window in an active school year, and double-check the settings of the preference (which may allow teachers the chance to enter the monitor password and allow testing outside the restricted dates/times).

IP addresses can be restricted to prevent students from testing outside approved networks; if a student tries to test from a non-authorized computer, they may see an error message.

If the error message has a View Details link, select it for more information.

The message reads: Can't Test. Reason: District or school restriction. Today is outside of a state screening window. The Home and Log Out links are at the bottom.

The message reads: Can't Test. Reason: District or school restriction. Testing is only allowed at school (IP Restrictions).

The initial message reads: Can't test. Reason: Invalid Active School Year. The View Details link is at the bottom. A second window shows the follow-up message: Today's date does not fall within the starting and ending dates of the active school year. Contact your school assessment coordinator. The message reads: Start Test. This student can only test if you enter the monitor password to override the school restrictions. Testing is only allowed Monday through Friday. Testing is only allowed from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The Monitor Password field is below this; the Cancel and Start buttons are at the bottom.

The message reads: Resume Test. This student can only resume the test if you enter the monitor password to override the school restrictions. Testing is only allowed Monday through Friday. Test in Progress/Incomplete Test

The student may have already started a test on another device, or may have an incomplete test on the current device. Verify that the student is logged in on the correct device and follow the instructions in the error message.

The message reads: Incomplete Test. An incomplete Star Reading test for Bella Barrett was attempted today. Verify Bella is using this device and enter the monitor password to allow Bella to start a new test. If Bella is not using this device, enter the monitor password and log the student out immediately. The Monitor Password field is shown; the Log Out and Start buttons are at the bottom.

Incorrect Student Information

The student may have incorrect or incomplete information in the roster (date of birth, class enrollment, grade level) that prevents them from taking a test. Make sure the information in the student roster is correct.

The message reads: Can't Test. Reason: Missing date of birth. The student's date of birth must be in their Renaissance user details before they can take a state assessment. The Home and Log Out links are at the bottom.

The message reads: Can't Test. Reason: Missing class enrollment. Enroll the student in a class for the current school year. The Home and Log Out links are at the bottom.

The message reads: Can't Test. Reason: Wrong grade level. Only students in grades K to 2 can take these state tests. The Home and Log Out buttons are at the bottom.

Technical Problems

An undefined technical problem is stopping the student from beginning a test. Please log the student out and try again later.

The message reads: Something Went Wrong. Try again in a few minutes. The Home and Log Out links are at the bottom.

The message reads: Something Went Wrong. We can't start or finish the test. The Log Out link is at the bottom.

The message reads: Can't Test. Reason: Accommodations issue. Students can't try sample questions or take an assessment with accommodations right now. Try again later, or tomorrow, if the issue persists. The Home and Log Out links are at the bottom.

Access Denied

The student may not be in the correct grade to take a test, or the user may not be logged in as a student. In this case, access to the test is denied.

The message reads: Access Denied. You do not have permission to view this page. The Log Out link is at the bottom.

Monitor Password

Depending on the setting of the Monitor Password - Star Tests Preference, the teacher may have to enter the monitor password before a student can begin a test. Regardless of the setting of that preference, a monitor password is always required to resume a test that has been paused.
