Things to Consider Before Setting Up Summer Classes
After you've integrated Renaissance with Clever, Renaissance is linked with Clever year-round. When you are getting ready for your summer session, keep the following in mind:
- Do you plan to pause the sync between Clever and your Student Information System (SIS) during the summer, or do you plan to keep the sync running, pulling SIS data into Clever all year?
- If the sync is paused during your summer break: You can use Clever's Custom Data feature to add your summer classes. Clever Support has created a guide to adding Custom Sections.
-
If the sync is running during your summer break: You can create your summer classes in your Student Information System and extend the school year so the terms in Clever are also extended.
Note: You can also use Custom Data even if your Clever data is syncing with your SIS over summer break.
- Will you be creating new classes for the summer, or will you be extending your existing classes?
- If you are creating new classes: You can do this using Clever's Custom Sections feature. To learn more about adding custom sections to your Clever data, see Custom Data Sections.
- If you are extending existing classes in your SIS: Please reach out to Clever Support for further assistance.
Whatever option works best for you, it is important to make sure your sections in Clever include the start and end dates of your summer classes so that they come through to Renaissance correctly and so that they prompt an adjustment to your Renaissance School year.
If you have questions about how to adjust the dates in Clever, please contact Clever Support for assistance. If you have questions about what your Renaissance site requires from your Clever data, contact Renaissance Support.
Limits on Extending the School Year
Although the Renaissance school year start date cannot be adjusted, you can extend the Renaissance school year to include the dates of your summer session. Renaissance limits school years to 365 days, so your summer session classes must end on or before 365 days from the Renaissance school year start date. See Viewing School Years to find out how to view your existing Renaissance school years.
For example, if you have been working in your 2024-2025 school year with a Renaissance school year start date of 8/26/2024, the sections that you share with Renaissance must end on or before 8/25/2025 to prevent errors during the sync.
If you are planning your next school year and you haven't yet shared data with Renaissance, now is a good time to consider the range of your Renaissance school year. The earliest start date and latest end date from the sections you share in Clever will be the start and end date of the school year in Renaissance. Consider how long your expected summer session will be and how that will affect the 365-day limit for Renaissance school years.
