The Star State Standards Mastery—District/School Report shows you the levels of domain mastery that all students in a school or district have achieved in relation to your state standards. It can also show you comparisons between current and projected end-of-year mastery levels (English only) and comparisons of current English mastery to current Spanish mastery.

If you want to use demographic data to further refine the data in the report, select Change Demographics... (or Choose Demographics...).
By default, the "All" option is chosen for Ethnicity, Gender, and Language. To reduce the scope, choose the "Select" option at the top of the appropriate column and then check your selections in that column.
In the example above, the user has selected two Languages while leaving Ethnicity and Gender at the default "All" options. Note: The Filter Reports by Ethnicity user permission may be set to prevent the use of ethnicities as a filter.
By default, the "All" option is chosen for Characteristics. To reduce the scope, choose Select Characteristics... and then check each characteristic you want students in the report to have. You must also choose any or all (after "Include students with") to specify whether students with any of the selected characteristics will be included in the report or only those with all of the selected characteristics.
In the example above, the user selected two Characteristics (ADA and ESL). Because any is selected, the report will include students who are ADA, ESL, or both. If all had been selected, only students who are both ADA and ESL would be included. Note: The Filter Reports by Characteristics user permission may be set to prevent the use of characteristics as a filter.
Once you are finished choosing demographic options, select Apply at the bottom of the window to save your choices (or Cancel to close the window without saving your choices).
- Use the For Selected and Show List of drop-down lists to determine how the data in the report should be arranged. Check Hide Sections Without Data if you want to omit sections of the report that have no data in them.
For some customers in larger school districts, the options in the For Selected and Show List of drop-down lists are limited to the following:
For Selected Show List of District Schools District Standards Schools Teachers Schools Standards - If you selected Reading or Math as the subject, select one of the display options available:
- Current Mastery: Shows an estimate of mastery based on the most recent assessments and assignments.
- Current vs. Projected English Mastery (End of School Year): Shows both current mastery and estimated levels of mastery for the end of the school year. Research shows that at least 50% of students should achieve the level of growth shown by the end of the school year.
If you selected Reading Spanish or Math Spanish as the subject, only Current Mastery can be shown, so you will not need to make this selection.
For some customers in larger school districts, the option to choose between current mastery or current vs. projected mastery is not available; only current mastery can be shown for those customers.
- Select Update Report.
- The report will generate and then open at the bottom of the page.
The number of option combinations makes it impractical to try to show examples of every possible output for this report. Instead, two examples are shown below, using the following options and differing only in the Display Options selected.

Each domain set and domain has a group of tables for every standard in the domain. Each school's data is in its own table; the level of mastery for each standard in the domain is shown for every teacher in the chosen grade in each school.
In this example:
- The tables are showing data for "Key Ideas and Details," one of the domains in the "Literature" domain set.
- The specific standard being shown is "XYZ.ELA-Literacy.RL.1.6.: Ask and answer questions about key details in a text."
- The top table shows mastery data for that standard for every 3rd-grade teacher at East Elementary School. Each teacher's data shows (in bar graph and numerical/percentage form) the number of that teacher's students who are at Beginning (0–59%), Developing (60–79%), and Secure (80–100%) mastery levels for that standard.
- The number of each teacher's students tested compared to the total is also shown, along with the median mastery level for those students (the mastery percent is calculated for each of the teachers' students; the median value of those percents is shown).
- The last row of the table shows the mastery levels for this standard for the entire district, making it easy to compare each teacher's performance to the overall district's.
The next table shows the same information for the same standard, but for another school in the district (Southern Elementary). These tables continue to generate until mastery data for all the standards is produced for every teacher in the selected grade at the selected schools.
-
Display Options: Current vs. Projected English Mastery (End of School Year)
Every standard has its own table. For each teacher in the chosen grade for each school, the current level of mastery for that teacher's students for each standard is shown; beneath it, the projected level of mastery (for the end of the school year) is shown.
In the upper table of this example:
- The table shows data for "Key Ideas and Details," one of the domains in the "Literature" domain set.
- The specific standard being shown is "XYZ.ELA-Literacy.RL.1.6.: Ask and answer questions about key details in a text."
- Each teacher in the selected school and grade has a row with two levels of data. In the upper level of a class's row, the number of the teacher's students who are currently at Beginning (0–59%), Developing (60–79%), and Secure (80–100%) mastery levels for that standard are shown (in bar graph and numerical/percentage form).
In the lower part of the row, the projected mastery levels for the end of the school year are shown. - The number of students tested compared to the total is also shown, and the median mastery level for the students is also calculated. The same data is estimated for the end-of-year projection.
- The last row of the table shows the current and projected mastery levels for the standard for the entire school, making it easy to compare each teacher's performance to the overall school's.
The lower table shows the same information for another standard in the same domain set and domain ("XYZ-ELA-Literacy.RL.2.8: Explain major differences between books that tell stories and books that give information, drawing on a wide reading range of a range of text types."). These tables continue to generate until current and projected mastery data for all the standards is produced for every teacher in the selected grade at the selected schools.
