Exporting Star CBM Lectura Assessment Scores (Downloading Data/CSV Files)

In Star CBM Lectura, you can export any of the following to a comma-separated value (.csv) file, which can be opened in many spreadsheet programs:

  • All scores for a class or group and the current school year
  • All scores for a specific student across school years
  • All scores for a specific student and measure for the current school year

If you prefer to save results to a file (PDF) or print results, you can use the Print or Save option instead.

Who can do this with the standard user permissions?

District Level Administrators, District Dashboard Owners, District Staff, School Level Administrators, School Staff, Teachers

Exporting Scores for the Class or Group

To export the scores from the current school year for an entire class or group, follow these steps:

  1. If you see the Renaissance Home page after you log in, select Star CBM Lectura, then select Record Book & Assessments.
    If you see Renaissance Next instead, select Star on the left, then select Star CBM Lectura and select Record Book & Assessments.
  2. At the top of the page, use the drop-down lists to choose the subject (Reading), school, and class or group. The School drop-down list is only available if you have access to more than one school. If you only have access to one subject or class/group, you will see the selected item, and there will be no drop-down list.

  3. Select Download Data under the table of students and scores.

    A .csv file named export-CBMAssessments.csv will be downloaded to your computer.

Exporting All Scores for a Student and Subject

To export all scores for a specific student and subject (including scores from previous school years), follow these steps:

  1. If you see the Renaissance Home page after you log in, select Star CBM Lectura, then select Record Book & Assessments.
    If you see Renaissance Next instead, select Star on the left, then select Star CBM Lectura and select Record Book & Assessments.
  2. At the top of the page, use the drop-down lists to choose the subject (Reading), school, and class or group. The School drop-down list is only available if you have access to more than one school. If you only have access to one subject or class/group, you will see the selected item, and there will be no drop-down list.

  3. Select the name of the student on the CBM Spanish Assessments tab.

  4. Select Download Data at the bottom of the page.

    A .csv file named export-StudentDetails.csv will be downloaded to your computer.

Exporting Scores for a Student and Measure in the Current School Year

To export all scores for a specific student and measure for the current school year, follow these steps:

  1. If you see the Renaissance Home page after you log in, select Star CBM Lectura, then select Record Book & Assessments.
    If you see Renaissance Next instead, select Star on the left, then select Star CBM Lectura and select Record Book & Assessments.
  2. At the top of the page, use the drop-down lists to choose the subject (Reading), school, and class or group. The School drop-down list is only available if you have access to more than one school. If you only have access to one subject or class/group, you will see the selected item, and there will be no drop-down list.

  3. Select a student's latest score for a measure. Then, select the progress link at the bottom of the popup window.

  4. Select Download Data at the bottom of the page.

    A .csv file named export-Measure.csv will be downloaded to your computer.

What Is In the Exported Files?

The exported .csv files include a row for each assessment, and each row includes the following information. For students who have not taken assessments, you will see one row without data. Exported files include columns that apply to Star Reading, Star Math, and Star Early Literacy; those columns are empty when you export information for Star CBM Lectura.

  • client ID (a short form of the name for your Renaissance site)
  • school name
  • class name
  • teacher name (for the class)
  • student ID
  • student name
  • student's grade at the time of the assessment
  • activity name - Star CBM Lectura Activity Type
  • measure name
  • purpose - "Screening" for the recommended screening measure for the student's grade, "Progress Monitoring" if a goal is set for the measure, or "Other" for all other situations
  • season - Fall Testing Window, Winter Testing Window, or Spring Testing Window
  • CBM benchmark (if available for the measure and grade) - Satisfactory/Optimal or Alert
  • off-grade check mark - for scores that don't have benchmarks for the current grade and season, the column shows "Yes" for scores that would be Satisfactory/Optimal in the nearest grade and season where benchmarks exist for the measure (for Pasajes para lectura en voz alta, when the student is assessed at another grade level, the benchmarks for the passage's grade level and the nearest season to the student's grade are used for the check mark); "No" means the score would not be Satisfactory/Optimal; "N/A" means the score has benchmarks, so this field does not apply
  • correct / minute - equated CPM (correct per minute) score
  • goal name (for activities that apply to a goal - this is only shown when you download data from the Student Details page)*
  • rate of improvement (only in files downloaded from the Student Details page) - for assessments that are part of a goal, the increase in CPM scores per week between the initial test and this test; the initial test has a dash in this field*
  • percent correct
  • Percentile Rank
  • decile - for scores with benchmarks only (groups of Percentile Ranks;
    PRs of 1-10 = 1,
    11-20 = 2,
    21-30 = 3,
    31-40 = 4,
    41-50 = 5,
    51-60 = 6,
    61-70 = 7,
    71-80 = 8,
    81-90 = 9,
    and 91-100 = 10;
    1 is the lowest group of scores, and 10 is highest)
  • quartile - for scores with benchmarks only (groups of Percentile Ranks;
    PRs of 1-25 = 1,
    26-50 = 2,
    51-75 = 3,
    76-100 = 4;
    1 is the lowest group of scores, and 4 is highest)
  • time taken (in seconds)
  • date and time completed based on UTC time, not local time zones - for example, 2020-12-04T17:57:33.686Z would indicate a test was administered on 12/4/2020 at 12:57 PM EST
  • test mode - Online, Mixed Format, or Print
  • teacher notes
  • equated number correct
  • equated number attempted
  • attempted per minute
  • form ID
  • activity ID
  • application name (Star CBM Lectura)
  • tested at school? (yes or no, or "unknown" for older assessments that don't have the information)
  • has audio? (true or blank) - indicates whether recorded audio is available for the assessment
  • CBM benchmark type - norm-referenced

* Goal name and Rate of Improvement are only shown when you export data from the Student Details page.
