Requirements
2 Devices (a computer, Chromebook™, or tablet):
- Device one (teacher) is used for scoring and recording student responses.
- Device two (student) is used to display words for the student to read aloud.
Step 1: Teacher Setup/Teacher Device
- On the teacher device, log in to your Renaissance site. If you go to the Home page, select Star Phonics under Assess Students, then select Educator Login. If you go to Renaissance Next instead, select Star under My Apps; then, select Star Phonics and select Educator Login.
- Select Screener Testing.
- Select options for the student test and click Next.
- See the 8-Digit Code for the student device. Codes expire after 10 minutes; if necessary, select Refresh Student Code.
Step 2 MUST be completed before the teacher clicks Begin Test on the teacher device.
Step 2: Student Setup/Student Device
The student setup is the same for both in-person and remote administrations.
- On the student device, you can either log in yourself and select Star Phonics, then Student Test Code Page, or you can have the student log in and select Star Phonics.
- Enter the 8-Digit Code and click Enter. Codes expire after 10 minutes; if necessary, select Refresh Student Code.
The student’s device will say "Please Wait" until the teacher clicks Begin Test on their device. If you see an alert saying the code has expired, the teacher must select Refresh Student Code and provide a new code. Codes expire after 10 minutes.
Step 3: Administering the Test
- Read the instructions found in the app to the student; then, click Begin Test.
- The same three words will appear on the teacher and student screens.
- The student reads each word aloud.
- The teacher scores each word.
- The teacher clicks Next, and the next set of words shows on both screens.
- Repeat until the student has finished.
- When the student has finished, click Submit to end testing.
- The student device will display “Completed” and return to the login screen.
- The teacher device will now show the student reports.
- The 3 reports are the Student Bar Graph, Student Tile, and Diagnostic Recommendations.
