- Static State Benchmarks – Now Available for All Customers
- Available on the Star Screening and Star Student Report

Renaissance Analytics
- New, enhanced interface
- We are excited to announce a few enhancements to the Renaissance Analytics user interface for easier navigation around your district data.

Star Assessments
- Star CBM - Percent Accuracy added for Passage Oral Reading
- Passage Oral Reading assessments (for both Star CBM English and Star CBM Lectura) will include a Percent Accuracy score in addition to the CPM score.
- Percent Accuracy is calculated by dividing the equated correct count by the equated number of items attempted. This result is then multiplied by 100 and rounded to a whole number. As a result, Percent Accuracy scores indicate the same level of performance across forms, and they can be interpreted regardless of the specific form taken in a measure.
- This score will show when viewing a student’s score in the Star Record Book within the CBM English and CBM Spanish Assessments tabs and the Student Details page.
- Went live on 9/22
- Star CBM Field Test resumes for Encoding measure for grades 4-6 as of 9/8/23
- Star CBM Reading - Overall Risk Score launched 9/8/23
- If Overall Risk Score preference is enabled, the % at Risk Overall tile will show in Star CBM Reading Data Insights
- Score shows which students in grades K-2 are at risk because their composite scores are below the 20th percentile. Overall Risk Scores are a combination of selected Foundations of Literacy measures in each grade that have norms across the full year and are most psychometrically useful for creating a combined indicator of risk based on performance in these literacy measures.
- Districts using the single screening measure per grade are not recommended to use the Overall Risk Score.
- Star Preschool launched 9/1/23
- Star Preschool Literacy uses Item Response Theory, a test construct based on high-precision mapping of student ability via Rasch modeling of item difficulty. This approach supports universal screening and determination of tier 1 versus tier 2/3 status of student proficiency, with additional support for progress monitoring as desired.
- English Literacy includes the following measures: Oral Language (picture naming), Alphabetic Knowledge (sound ID), Phonological Awareness (rhyming and alliteration), Comprehension (which one doesn't belong).

- Grade Placement (GP) Now Aligns with Your School Year
- This will be very beneficial as grade placement is now more closely aligned to your unique academic school year.
- GP is calculated as a percent based on each customer’s academic school year, instead of students’ grade placement being based on a static calendar year starting August 1.
Star Assessments

- Updates are based on recent linking studies completed with MetaMetrics were released August 18, 2023.
- Quantiles now reported for grades K-12 (previously reported for grades 1-12).
- Star Reading and Star Reading Spanish now include grade caps* (previously grade caps only applied to Star Early Literacy and Star Math).
- Adjusted grade caps for Star Early Literacy, based on updated 2022 norms.
- Lexile and Quantile scores are expected to be a bit higher than previously reported values, with most notable increases expected for students in grades K-3.
- Very high scoring students may see a decrease in their Lexile and Quantile scores due to grade cap changes.
- State Benchmark Updates
- Each year Renaissance rolls out updated state benchmarking information for a handful of states. This year, Renaissance is introducing new cut scores for six states (CO, IL, KY, NM, NC, and SC) and an updated test name for AZ.
- In addition to our annual updates, the way that the state benchmarking system adjusts expectations backwards from the state test mid-date to the beginning of the school year has changed for 2023-2024 for all customers. State benchmark reports and extracts have not changed; only the underlying system that time-adjusts state test cut scores backwards has changed.
- Data used to generate state time-adjusted benchmarks has been updated to reflect more recent school years than what has been used in the past.
- The new state benchmarking system includes increased precision around the way we account for student growth throughout the year. State benchmarks are now time-adjusted to a particular date. The previous approach relied on grade placement and was not as precise to the day.
- It is possible that students with a particular Scaled Score are now estimated to be in a different proficiency category than they have been in the past.
- Differences between the new and prior system, if they are apparent at all, should be more noticeable at the start of the school year because of the way we are accounting for growth over time. Towards the end of the school year there will be no differences.

- Adaptive Learning Changes
- Students will start assignments right away instead of finishing the current lesson
- Students won't switch lessons every 5 activities anymore instead they will practice each LO of a lesson, and then switch to a new lesson.
- Students will still switch lessons even if the previous lesson is not "validated" -- this doesn't change. Practicing all LOs is the only condition to switch lesson.
