How do I get to this page?
- On the Home page:
- Renaissance Next: Select Star in the left-hand sidebar; then, select one of the following programs: Star Reading, Star Early Literacy, Star Math, or Star Spanish. In the drop-down list under the program, select Data Insights.
-
Legacy Mode: Select one of the following programs: Star Reading, Star Early Literacy, Star Math, or Star Spanish. Then, in the sidebar, select Data Insights.
Who can do this with default user permissions?
- District Administrators: view data for any school in the district
- School Administrators: view data for their own school
- Teachers: view data for their own classes
Star Data Insights let you see how many students are being screened using Star assessments during a specific district screening window. For each assessment type, you can explore the data further, breaking it down by school or grade.
Results for Star tests can be seen in Star Data Insights as soon as a student completes a test.
- On the Star Data Insights page, use the School, Screening Period, and Products drop-down lists to choose what data appears on the page.
- District users can select any schools in the district. School users and teachers can only select schools they are assigned to; if you are only assigned to one school, you will not need to make a selection (you can choose Select All/Clear All at the bottom to check or uncheck all the schools at once).
- The screening periods available are district screening windows in the current school year. Data will update only within the active screening window dates. Once the screening window has ended, data for that window will no longer be updated.
- Data for all your available Star Early Literacy, Star Math, and Star Reading products (English and Spanish) are shown by default; to change the products shown, select the Products drop-down list and make sure the products you want to see are checked (you can choose Select All/Clear All at the bottom to check or uncheck all the products at once). Note: Insights for Star Math do not include Algebra or Geometry.
Users in Florida will see the Show only FAST Assessments option to the right of the three drop-down lists; select it to limit the data shown to FAST assessments only.
- After you make your selections, the Data Insights page will automatically update. Each program will have a panel showing how many students in the selected school(s) have completed an assessment, both as a percent and as a number.
How are screening rates calculated?
Screening rates (SR) are calculated as:
SR = SScr / (SElg – SNp)
where
SScr = students screened
SELg = students eligible for screening (assigned to a class with an assigned product; enrollment figures are updated nightly)
SNp = students who are not participating in screening (based on the setting of students' Non-Participation status)
Note: If a student is marked as a non-participant but still takes a test, that student would not be included in the list of students screened (SScr).
For users in Florida who selected the Show only FAST Assessments option earlier, the headings in the panels will have an icon following them.
- The number of grades included in the data calculations is shown in the upper-right corner of each panel. To change this, select the number of grades; in the pop-up list, check grades you want to include, or uncheck those you don't. You can also use the Select All/Clear All link at the bottom to check/uncheck all of the grades at once. After making your selections, click off to the side of the pop-up list to close it. The data on the tile will automatically update based on the grades you have selected.
- Select Explore the data at the bottom of a panel to see the information in tabular form.
