florida b.e.s.t. standards and planner
For our customers in Florida, in Planner, domains are referred to as strands, and standards are referred to as benchmarks.
Creating a new Lesson Plan is a four-stage process—this page is for the third stage:
- Selecting the students and timeframe
- Selecting skills to teach
- Choosing assignments
- Scheduling assignments
After you select the learning objectives (skills) and choose to build a Lesson Plan, you choose the student resources and assessments to include in the Lesson Plan for each group. Resources may include sample items, worked examples, videos, lessons, definitions, or activities. Assessments include Star Custom Skill Probes.
As you select resources and assessments, you assign them to student groups. When you have generated the Lesson Plan, students will see the resources and assessments in the Assignments list on their Home page once the Lesson Plan begins.
-
At the top of the page, you will see the information you have entered about the lesson plan so far: its name, subject, school, and the class/group.
The scheduled dates for the lesson plan are above the right-hand column on this page.
-
In the left-hand column, you will see all the learning objectives (skills) that you selected; the first skill selection is highlighted. Select another skill to change the highlight; the resources in the next column will change to match the selected skill.
If you want to change the skills, select Change (on the right of the Selected Skills heading) to go back to the prior page.
-
All of the available resources for a skill are listed in the second column. Use the filter icon on the right to fine-tune the resources shown. The available filters may vary: typical filters include media type, source, and resource type. Enter/choose your filters and select Apply to filter the resources.
You can also use the Filter by Keywords field at the top to search through the resources shown for specific keywords (for example, "skill check" would return Star Custom skill checks). Keyword filters remain in place, even when you switch from one skill to another, until you remove them. The Sources available will vary based on the setting of the Provider Content Availability preference, and on the Renaissance programs you have access to:
- Individual Star programs: Gives you access to all third-party resources (EngageNY, OER Commons, etc.)
- Star 360 and/or Star Custom: Gives you access to Star Custom Skill Checks
- Accelerated Reader 360: Gives you access to AR360 skills practice assignments (which include non-fiction articles, skills practice, and quizzes)
In the gray area below each resource, you can see additional information about that resource. This may include the related standard, the Scaled Score associated with the skills covered, standards such as Lexile® measures and ATOS book levels (where appropriate), and the creator/provider of the resource.
-
Select Preview in the upper-right corner of a resource to see a preview of it. At the top of the preview window, you can select + Add to Plan to add the resource to your lesson plan (you do not have to preview an item to add it—see the next step). Select Close Preview to close the preview window. (Note: Some third-party providers require teachers and/or students to have an account with them before they can preview their resources.)
-
Select + Add in the lower-right corner of a resource to add it to your lesson plan (up to a maximum of 15 items per plan). The dates for your lesson plan will appear in a drop-down list; select the first day you want to start using the resource.
-
The resource will be added to the slot in the right for the date you selected. You can select the green checkmark for a resource that has been assigned a date to move it to another date, and you can select the remove icon to the right of a resource with an assigned date to remove it from that date and from the plan.
The total number of scheduled resources appears at the bottom of the page.
If more than one page of results is available, navigate between the pages using the controls at the bottom of the page:
-
If you want to create your own assessment, select Create your own in the bottom-left corner of the page. This will take you the authoring tool where you can create your own assessments—refer to the help files there for instructions on how to use the authoring tool. When you are done creating an assessment, you will be returned to Planner.
-
After you have chosen the resources and assessments that you want to include, select Review in the lower-right corner of the page.
After you select Review, you'll go to the Schedule Assignments page, where you can arrange skills, resources, and assessments across the days in your Lesson Plan.
